MHF launches Post-natal initiative
Mar 05, 2023

Sunraysia mums can now receive a new level of professional support with the introduction of a private Post-natal service.

Open to Mildura Health Fund (MHF) members, the service aims to assist the recovery of mothers’ post-birth, in the comfort of their own home or during a luxury hotel stay.

Chief Executive Officer Gerard Op de Coul said the fund was acutely aware of the gap left by the closure of Mildura Health Private Hospital’s (MHPH) Post-natal service in 2019, and the new service aims to provide a high level of support to local mothers after they are discharged from hospital.

“I am delighted we can now offer our new mothers and families a personalised Post-natal service to allow them time to get know their baby, whilst being supported by experienced midwives and lactation consultations,” Mr Op de Coul said.

Five midwives and lactation specialists have been employed to provide help and information to mothers who take up the initiative.

The parent can choose whether they receive the service at home or during a three-night stay at Mildura’s Indulge Apartments with their newborn and a support person.

They will also receive a gift hamper and a number of vouchers including for a physiotherapist, to support their recovery.

Mr Op de Coul said it was incredibly motivating to have already received many enquiries about the service from soon-to-be mums, which re-enforced the need and desire for the unique support model.

“We already have a number of expectant new mums booked in to access this service and I expect with this announcement and communications to our members, we will see an increase,” he said.

“Our vision is to see birthing and the original in-hospital Post-natal service option return to MHPH in the future and we are encouraged by the fact that our local Latrobe University is implementing a Midwifery course.”
